Winter in South Korea: Nami Island and Garden of Morning Calm

Last February, my friends Pal, Sonia and I went to South Korea. We were on different flights. I took a late night flight (which was delayed) and arrived at Incheon Airport at around 10pm. According to my research, the trains stop at midnight. I was literally running around the airport trying to catch the train to Seoul at the eleventh hour, because if I didn’t make it, I’d have to take a taxi which is expensive. I arrived in Seoul past midnight, and luckily the trains were still operating. I could get to the hostel without taking a taxi then. I arrived at my last train stop and was about to use Google Maps for directions when my phone suddenly died. I think it had something to do with the cold (not sure, have to research), so there I was, standing in the freakin’ cold outside the train station with no battery! I asked a Korean for directions and he and two of his friends ended up taking me to the hostel. It was such a memorable (and funny) experience!

Anyway, fast forward to the next day. Here we are at 7/11 waiting for a bus bound for Nami Island.

Nami Island

We’ve arrived at our destination! Everything looks dead! Spot the squirrel!

I know it’s so sunny and the weather looks beautiful. Don’t let that fool you. It was sooo cold!

Snowmen! My first time to see snow <3

Ice sculptures…

Some notes I can't read.

Unwrapped my scarf around my neck for that quick photo-op!

Beneath that red sweater, I was wearing a tank top and a Uniqlo long sleeve heat teach top. I was also wearing heat tech leggings under those jeans. No such thing as too many clothes in this weather!

Ostriches!!! This was a pleasant surprise.

Hi there big guy!

Frozen lake! Thank god it didn’t crack and we’re still alive!

Drama time for the blog (and Instagram).

Dak galbi for lunch

Lunch time!!! My favorite time of the day in Korea because THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING IN THIS COUNTRY.

Garden of Morning Calm

Look at that struggling face. Poor, poor girl.

Oh, don’t mind me. Just dying a slow painful cold death here. Good thing I have a Sonia to keep me warm. 😛

Goodbye! Off to Seoul.
